Has anyone actually went through all of their emails including advertisements? I don’t mean those that have opened a new account and read the like 5 new emails. I mean an established email account that has been used one various sites. I mean emails that come from “Purple mattress” and “Erin Condren”. I mean ones that usually people delete upon seeing the title or sender name. I would spend absolutely too much time needlessly reading each and every email I receive on a daily basis if I did not use discernment to cut through the mess. I know what I need and what I don’t need… most of the time. That isn’t to say that there are things that I don’t realize I need at times.
Then there are those things that I didn’t know that I “wanted”, like my Erin Condren planner and accessories. I absolutely utilize each and every item that I have from Erin Condren as they are practical AND nice. They are well made and well designed. I have been a fan and customer of Erin Condren since 2014. Every time I look back at my old planners, I am amazed at the memories that swirl in my head and the feelings they muster. And I would not have remembered these things had I not randomly opened up one of the advertisements from the pile of emails I had that day. I wouldn’t have been compelled to buy one product that today, I could not see myself living without.
These random alterations in life – as I call them anyway – change the course of our lives in a way that can’t be undone. Had I used the planner, and then decided that I didn’t want to do it anymore, I still would have begun writing down my semi-daily events. However, I would have utilized a different product (another calendar notebook or wall calendar) or a different way (like making a notebook of my own). Or I would have went back to journaling.
At that time, I had fallen out of the habit of writing in a journal thoughts, feelings, and events of my life. I was working so hard and raising four sons while working on my marriage and assimilating into a family that at the time didn’t know me enough to like or dislike me. At the time, I didn’t think that I had time to write. So these “memories” were getting forgotten. But then one email changed all of that.
Now I am not saying that you have to go read all of your emails because one of them will have a profound impact on your life changing the trajectory of it or anything. But I am just using this as an example of this seemingly small act that turned out to be a great big change – like a ripple effect begun by one drop. These “drops” happen at what appear to be random and all around.
I kind of see that in the Bible. The “drops” or “emails” are highlighted in the Bible so that we remember the change that took place and rippled out to other things. Some of those ripples collide with other ripples changing those trajectories. And in all of this, there are patterns to be aware of and learn from. And of course the Master Pattern Maker knows exactly where to drop to make the ripples that effect other ripples from other drops. He knows which person will send an email of a product that will be opened by you changing your habits. He knows what person will parent another person that will drive the school bus you and your best friend ride which eventually ends up your patient at the hospital you work at after becoming a nurse. He knows it all.
He has a plan for each of us. It all comes down to our willingness to “open His email” and follow Him.
Gotta go fill up my cup…..
