In the mornings, I take the dogs out back, and while they wander around the yard, I stand on the deck and pray. Before the rest of the family wakes and the busyness of the day begins, that quiet space gives me peace and helps me start the day with a settle heart. This morning, as I prayed, one question rose in my heart: “God, why do You love me?” I know that He loves me, but from my human perspective, I struggle to understand why – or how – He could love someone as small as I feel in comparison to Him.
As I sat with that question, this verse came to mind:
“God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” (Numbers 23:19, ESV)
Lately, I have been struggling with my sense of value – value as a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter, a friend, and simply as a person. A familiar tape plays in my mind: “You’re not good enough.” It is an old message, one rooted in childhood, when even the things I thought I was doing well never seemed to be enough.
For much of my life, I have chased confidence and validation, hoping to feel that I am enough to be love – not because of what I do, but because of who I am. Yet that chase has often felt like pursuing a ghost or a mirage. I have looked to others for my worth instead of turning to the only unchanging One, the One who has told me again and again that I am precious in His sight.
The entire Bible is filled with the truth of His eternal love. He has told us so many times that He loves us, and He has shown us that He counts us as more valuable “than many sparrows.” The very hairs of my “head are all numbered.” He tells us in Isaiah 49: 15, “I will not forget you.” And then in the next verse, He takes this further by saying, “Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” This points to what He did for us. In Romans 5:8, it says, “But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God has proven over and over that He loves us – that He loves even me.
After I thought about how “God is not man, that he should lie,” I remembered the verse in Isaiah 43. Verse 4a says, “Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you.” Wow! He loves His children, His saints. I am His daughter, precious in His eyes, and He loves even me. And not only that. He sent His only Son to die on the cross that was meant for me and all of us. It says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
This morning, I began will a peace and a validation that God truly loves even me. He loves you, too. All you need to do is believe Him. Believe the truth of what He has told us since the beginning of time itself.
Gotta go fill up my cup…..
