Find Your Peace

There are so many passages on peace in the Bible that it is hard to pick just one to hone in on. The entire Word of God is filled with Peace. However, one specific promise comes from the fact that Jesus Christ is our Peace. He is the prince of peace. He is the harbinger of peace. He is the bearer of peace. He is the True Peace that passes all understanding. And He is our Advocate with the Father, the righteous (1 John 2:1). He is our propitiation for sins. And we know Him by keeping His commandments, His Word. Peace He leaves us, His peace (John 16:33).

If you were to google “peace in the Bible”, this is what comes up: “In the Bible, ‘peace’ is a multifaceted concept that includes internal tranquility and external harmony, rooted in a relationship with God and expressed through a life of justice and love.” Multifaceted is right! Peace is a divine gift from God, not achieved by anything we can say or do. This peace surpasses all understanding and will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Jesus promises all of His followers His very own peace. He says, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled [read as: don’t be anxious], neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27).

This peace that God gives to us in an internal peace brought to us by the personal relationship that we have with Him. We can be assured by faith that He truly loves us. In Isaiah 26:3, we read, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” Wow! “Perfect Peace”! This is the internal peace of a steadfast faith. I found that in the Hebrew, the term for peace is “shalom”, and it is not just a feeling of everything being okay. It encompasses a state of completeness, welfare, wholeness, and harmony in all areas of life including relationships with God, others, and yourself. However, there is no peace for the wicked. The righteous who love God’s law will have great peace.

And what do we do with this information? We pursue peace. Psalm 34:14 says, “Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.” Then in Matthew 5:9, we see that the peacemakers are blessed for they will be called children of God. Peacemakers are known as God’s children protected and provided for by Him. And as children of God, we live at peace with others. Romans 12:17-18 says, “Do not repay anyone evil for evil… if it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” We are to pursue peace in this way, being peacemakers with everyone good or not so good. We are to live peaceably with ALL people. God sees all that His children experience, and the ones who are against Him and His children will not go unpunished. They will reap what they sow. This is absolute and will come to pass.

God is our peace that keeps us in all trials and tribulations. There is no escaping this peace when you are in Jesus Christ. There is no one or nothing that can deliver you from His all encompassing peace and steadfast love when you are in relationship with Him. God is too good, too great, and too perfect to test this. Many have tried to go against this, but when Jesus comes back to finish this timeline and finish the curse that began back in the Garden of Eden, they will see the error of their ways in rejecting Him. This will be the worst decision they have ever made if they reject His love, grace, and mercy. He is calling to all to come to His peace. There is no reason to reject Him, because He is the only way to peace.
