One of the many attributes that God reveals to us in the Bible is that He is WISE. There is wisdom in His creation, His works, and His ways. The world offers a different kind of “wisdom” that the Bible calls folly. This folly is perversion of God’s wisdom. There is a twisting of the perfection of God’s wisdom that serves self rather than others. This perverted type of “wisdom” ultimately leads to death, whereas God’s wisdom, which is perfect, leads to life.
God has shown us His wisdom for our good and His glory. God gives us life. Our task is to seek it out, seek Him out. And knowing Him is the priority of priorities. Seeking Him out leads to life. Lovingly, He has given us His Word to show us Who He is. Throughout the text of the Bible, God has shown Himself to us in a way that allows us purpose and work. He brings us into His work in this way. We love Him and love others. Loving Him begins by knowing Him.
There are so many passages that teach us that He is wise. His wisdom is found in creation. We see this in multiple passages including Jeremiah 10:12-13
It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens. When he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he makes the mist rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain, and he brings froth the wind from his storehouses.
Then, in verses 14 and 15, we see the folly of this world:
Every man is stupid and without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols, for his images are false, and there is no breath in them. They are worthless, a work of delusion; at the time of their punishment they shall perish.
In verse 14, when it says, “every man is stupid and without knowledge,” it means that man is foolish without God’s wisdom (Proverbs 1:1-7), especially when practicing idolatry. God is Creator. When man pretends to be creator, they are foolish, and they are usurping God’s rightful place. This is not practicing wisdom. And God is the true source of wisdom. Seeking Him, we seek wisdom.
If we look at what Paul wrote to the Corinthians, specifically 1 Corinthians 1:21-23 & 30, we see the wisdom of God in comparison to the wisdom of man.
For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles... And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption.
Jesus is the point of wisdom that we can understand. Jesus is the righteousness and sanctification and redemption. This is the wisdom we seek. This is the wisdom of God meant for us. Righteousness imparted to us from Jesus. Sanctification given to us as set apart for God. And redemption we have obtained to repair our relationship with God. God truly has given us full wisdom in Jesus. God has been so good to us. Jesus is the fulfillment of all of God’s wisdom.
Colossians 2:1-3 says:
For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
God’s mystery is Christ Jesus. And in Him are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. The Bible is written all about Jesus. I heard one time this phrase: “You can find Jesus on every page of the Bible.” All of it points to Jesus. This is our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. He is our salvation. He is wisdom.
Gotta go fill up my cup…..
